A versatile lawyer, Marc-Alexandre Hudon is a member of both the Litigation and the Corporate and Commercial Law groups. His practice focuses primarily on the protection of personal information, cybersecurity, public contracts, business integrity, administrative law and Aboriginal law. He acts for a wide range of clients, particularly in the natural resources and energy, infrastructure, health and technology sectors. A seasoned litigator before both Québec courts and the Federal Court, he assists clients with investigations, transactions and various related matters.

Protection of Personal Information and Cybersecurity

Marc-Alexandre has a deep understanding of the legal issues involved in the protection of personal information and cybersecurity, at both the provincial and federal levels. His expertise in this area includes investigations, providing advice and representing clients before the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec and the Federal Court. Over the course of his career, he has acted for a broad range of clients in hundreds of cases of all sizes, including confidentiality incidents, loss or theft of personal information, data breaches, ransomware, access requests and regulatory compliance.

Marc-Alexandre also advises clients on all aspects of personal information protection pertaining to artificial intelligence (AI) including AI solution selection, development and risk assessment, storage and safeguard of AI data and related issues with respect to individuals’ rights to access such data, designing and implementing AI compliance program and monitoring of AI solution performance. He is also familiar with emerging AI issues that intersect with some of his other areas of expertise, including competition law and business integrity.

Internal Investigations, Public Contracts and Business Integrity

Marc-Alexandre has extensive expertise in internal investigations, public contracts and, more broadly, business integrity, as well as anti-corruption legislation at both the national and international levels. He frequently acts on behalf of companies and their boards of directors to develop strategies and policies to preserve the integrity of their administrative processes, including with respect to the Corruption of Foreign Public Officials Act.

Aboriginal Law

Marc-Alexandre advises Canadian and international clients on all aspects of Canadian Aboriginal law, including in connection with business transactions, litigation, or matters relating to Aboriginal consultation and accommodation processes, treaties and the Indian Act. He is also recognized for his significant experience in creating and implementing joint ventures, co-enterprises and other partnerships that qualify as Aboriginal businesses with First Nations in Ontario, Québec, Nunavut, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Newfoundland and Labrador.

Administrative Law and Professional Law

In the area of commercial litigation, Marc-Alexandre regularly represents clients in matters such as judicial reviews, administrative law remedies, and complex legal proceedings related to his other areas of practice. He appears before all levels of court in Québec, including the Superior Court, the Court of Québec, the Tribunal administratif du Québec, councils and the Commission d’accès à l’information.
