On June 26, 2024, the Quebec government published the final version of the Regulation to amend mainly the Regulation respecting the language of commerce and business ("Regulation"). Some provisions of the Regulation come into force on July 11, 2024; the remainder will come into force on June 1, 2025.

On June 26, 2024, the Government of Québec published the final version of the Regulation to amend mainly the Regulation respecting the language of commerce and business (the “Regulation”), which clarifies certain changes to signage exceptions involving trademarks in languages other than French under the Charter of the French language (the “Charter”).

On September 22, 2024, the right to portability will come into force in Quebec.

On May 15, 2024, the Regulation respecting the anonymization of personal information (the “Regulation”) was published in the Gazette officielle du Québec. It comes into force on May 30, 2024.

On April 19, 2024 the Supreme Court of Canada rendered the decision Société des casinos du Québec inc. v. Association des cadres de la Société des casinos du Québec, 2024 SCC 13 which deals with the freedom of association protected by section 2(d) of the Canadian Charter and section 3 of the Québec Charter. This decision identifies the legal framework applicable to any claim based on freedom of association, whether the claim at issue is a so-called positive or negative claim. In applying this framework, the Supreme Court determined in this matter that the freedom of association of the Association des cadres de la Société des casinos du Québec and its members was not compromised by the employer, the Société des casinos du Québec inc. The Court thus allowed the appeals before it.

On May 9, 2024, the Minister responsible for Infrastructure tabled Bill 62, An Act mainly to diversify the acquisition strategies of public bodies and to offer them more agility in carrying out their infrastructure projects (“Bill 62”).
