Marc-Étienne Filteau focuses his practice on public law and civil and commercial litigation.

He has gained extensive experience as an assistant investigator with the Québec Ombudsman’s Public Integrity Investigations Directorate and as an articling student with the Ministère de la Justice’s Crime Victims Assistance Office. He also articled twice with the Québec Ombudsman’s legal department. He practises law in French and English, and his wide-ranging and multidisciplinary expertise gives him an in-depth understanding of the human and psychosocial factors at play in legal matters, along with a unique perspective which he leverages in his work.

Marc-Étienne’s academic experience is all the richer for the time he spent studying in Finland during his Bachelor of Laws and interning at a youth detention centre in Tacloban City in the Philippines during his B.A. in Criminology.

Throughout his university studies, he was actively involved in various initiatives. He chaired the board of SQUAT Basse-Ville, an organization dedicated to fighting homelessness among young people. He also volunteered on the Quebec tenant assistance committee for the Université Laval Chapter of Pro Bono Students Canada. In addition, he took part in Université Laval’s International Criminal and Humanitarian Law Clinic, a testament to his dedication to social and legal causes.
