
Yann Canneva
Lawyer, Trademark Agent - Montréal
Yann Canneva is a lawyer and trademark agent in Langlois Lawyers’ Montréal office. He handles a wide variety of intellectual property matters including managing trademark, industrial design and copyright portfolios and the registration of such rights. He is specialized in implementing strategies for the acquisition, protection and defence of intellectual property rights, as well as in IP litigation.
Yann also practises commercial and corporate law, advising clients on intellectual property issues linked to transactions and contract negotiations.
He first completed studies at HEC Montréal in 2009, majoring in Finance. In 2007, he studied business administration in France through an exchange program at IAE Aix-en-Provence. He then attended the Université de Montréal where he studied law.
Before joining Langlois, Yann spent seven years, practising at a regional boutique law firm specialized in intellectual property and civil and commercial litigation.
Yann is a member of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) and of the International Trademark Association (INTA).

Trademark Portfolio Management
Management of a trademark portfolio constituted of hundreds of applications and registrations for many local and international corporations, both small and medium enterprises and multinationals working in various fields: technology and software, food industry and processed products, alcoholic beverages, construction materials, cosmetics, real estate, official marks for cities, professional orders and other public authorities.
Mergers & Acquisitions
Advising and representing a buyer in the context of a business acquisition regarding the protection of the trademarks covered by the transaction and the impact of the use of the seller’s personal name as a trademark.
Advising and drafting of contracts in connection with the sale of assets in Québec of Medican Organic Inc., a subsidiary of The Green Organic Dutchman Holdings Ltd., a leader in the production of organic cannabis. The transaction included, in particular, farmland, greenhouses and other buildings as well as equipment specialized in the cultivation of cannabis.
Trademark Litigation
Representation of the defendant in a trademark infringement action brought in Federal Court based on the alleged confusion created by the labeling and packaging of the products sold by the customer.
Commercial Law
Advising and representing a Montréal company in the field of high technology and virtual reality. Drafting of various distribution and reseller agreements specifically adapted to the services offered by the customer.
Copyright Litigation
Representation of the plaintiff in an action for copyright infringement and depreciation of goodwill, the defendant having fully reproduced the image of its competitor’s product as part of a comparative advertising campaign.
