François Mainguy is an experienced and versatile lawyer. He assists a diversified clientele in civil and commercial litigation, insurance and liability matters, post-transactional litigation, individual labour relations and contract law. He pleads regularly before all judicial bodies in the province of Québec. He is known for his vigour and tenacity in asserting his clients’ rights and for the quality and soundness of his strategic advice, particularly when assessing legal and business risks and finding solutions to these issues.

François’ clientele comprises businesses of all sizes, from insurance companies to SMEs. They operate in a variety of areas of activity, including real estate, construction and transportation. He is highly dedicated to his clients and advises them on all their legal needs.

He has been committed to the firm since the start of his career, having worked there as a student during his law studies, and he now plays an important role on its litigation and insurance team.

  • François has pleaded several major cases involving insurance fraud on behalf of damage insurance companies.
  • He has been involved in several major professional liability cases arising from real estate transactions.
  • He also represented the family of a victim of police brutality in a suit for damages arising from the publication of a press release by the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI). The decisions of the Court of Québec and the Court of Appeal in this case are the first to have been rendered against the BEI and will likely lead to a change in that body’s communications policies.

Langlois successfully represents the Celik family in their action against the independent investigation bureau (BEI)
On June 7, 2021, the Court of Quebec, with the Honourable Louis Riverin, J.C.Q., presiding, handed down a judgment ordering the Attorney General of Quebec and the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI) to pay damages to the Celik family, whose son, Koray Kevin, was killed during a police operation in March 2017 at their Île-Bizard residence. François Mainguy, partner, with the support of Anna Villani, member of the litigation group at Langlois Lawyers, successfully represented this family.

Langlois Contributes to the Transformation of Forestville into Hollywood
Forestville, a town in the Quebec’s Upper North Shore region, was partially transformed into a Hollywood set during the filming of a TV series based on the best-selling novel The truth About the Harry Quebert Affair. This project was made possible thanks to the efforts and expertise of a team of Langlois Lawyers consisting of François Mainguy, a lawyer, partner, and Pascal Archambault, a lawyer at the firm, who assisted the company that owned part of the filming location in reaching an agreement between it and the producers of the series.
