Sean Griffin organizes a symposium on recent developments in securities litigation

Members of the Quebec legal community will soon have the opportunity to get abreast of the latest developments in securities litigation at a symposium organized by Sean Griffin to be held in Montreal on December 1st, 2017, in collaboration with the continuing professional development service of the Quebec Bar. Presentations will be made by seasoned practitioners from Quebec, Ontario and New York.

Those attending will be able to gain in-depth knowledge of several areas of interest and insight on current trends in securities litigation. Topics covered will include limitations on damages recoverable through the statutory remedy under sections 225.2 and following of the Securities Act, the repercussions of the Jordan decision in securities matters, the Canadian and American regimes applicable to lawsuits following a transaction involving publically traded companies, the application of U.S. securities legislation to Canadian issuers in the wake of the Morrison v. National Australia Bank decision, and recent legislative and jurisprudential developments in defensive Measures in the context of hostile takeovers.

Sean Griffin, a partner in the litigation group at Langlois Lawyers, and Antoine Brylowski, an associate in the group, will review and comment on the last five years of Canadian case law on insider trading and tipping.

A compendium of the texts of the presentations at the symposium will be published by Éditions Yvon Blais and distributed to attendees.
