New Rules on Staff Training for Cannabis Retail Sales and Information to Provide to Consumers

The Government of Quebec has recently enacted the Regulation respecting training on the retail sale of cannabis and information to be communicated to a purchaser in the course of a cannabis sale.

This regulation describes, among other things, the guiding principles surrounding the sale of cannabis and the main elements of the training that Société québécoise du cannabis (SQDC) salespeople will have to follow to properly inform and advise clients. The objective is to enable customers to make informed choices.

In addition, the regulation sets out the information that must be provided at the time of purchase. This includes, among other things, information on the components of cannabis, responsible use, cases where use is not recommended as well as health and safety risks.

Even if this regulation concerns the sale of cannabis by the SQDC, any player in the sector should be aware of it. One could also draw on the guidelines and information contained therein in developing its own internal policies and commercial practices, adapting them to its business context.
