Langlois partner Catherine Martel appointed to the Superior Court of Québec

We are proud to announce the appointment of our colleague and partner Catherine Martel as a judge of the Superior Court of Québec for the district of Montréal.

Commenting on the appointment, Jean-François Gagnon, Langlois’ CEO, notes: “Catherine is the kind of colleague who makes you a better lawyer, not only because of her extensive legal knowledge and deep understanding of legal culture as a whole, but also because of her passion for sharing and passing on that legal acumen. She has never confined herself to one industry or school of thought. Her versatility and creativity will be invaluable assets on the bench. While we are sorry to lose her as a dear colleague, we celebrate what the legal community and the judiciary will gain from her appointment. On behalf of all Langlois members, past and present, I congratulate her and wish her all the best.”

A member of Langlois’ Litigation group since 2018, Ms. Martel has advised and represented clients in disputes involving commercial and corporate law, class actions, civil liability (including product liability), consumer law, language rights, health law, administrative law, constitutional law and energy law. Her expertise has led her to plead before all levels of Québec courts, the Régie de l’énergie du Québec and the Supreme Court of Canada. She has also acted as an arbitrator in civil and commercial matters. Ms. Martel has extensive experience in Québec civil law matters and was regularly involved in drafting appellate briefs in virtually all areas of law, as well as being responsible for the firm’s knowledge management.
