Gabrielle Brochu appointed to the Quebec Superior Court

Montréal, July 12, 2021 – We are proud to announce the appointment of Gabrielle Brochu, a partner at Langlois Lawyers, as a judge of the Quebec Superior Court for the District of Montréal.

“This is a prestigious and well-deserved appointment. Madam Brochu has not only been a model of professional rigour and excellence on our team, but a source of inspiration and expertise for the entire firm for many years. While she will be sorely missed, we wish her every success and happiness in her new position within the Judiciary,” said Jean-François Gagnon, CEO of Langlois Lawyers.

Madam Brochu’s professional background is that of a great litigator. Practising in civil and commercial litigation, professional liability, construction law and disciplinary matters, she has represented insurers, businesses and professionals before civil courts, administrative tribunals and in various disciplinary proceedings. Ranked as a leading lawyer in directories such as the Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory, Madam Brochu was also named a 2016 Rising Star by Lexpert® magazine, which recognizes Canadian legal professionals under forty who demonstrate exceptional talent.

As a member of the firm’s Executive Committee and Board of Directors, Madam Brochu has combined a very high level of performance with a rich family life, a passion for teaching law and volunteer work in the community.

Driven by a desire to share her knowledge and experience with young lawyers, she has taught civil evidence at the École du Barreau du Québec. Since 2016, she has also acted as a trainer at the Séminaire des techniques de plaidoirie, an annual seminar on trial advocacy held in Sherbrooke. Since 2018, she has chaired the Access to Justice Committee of the Barreau du Québec.

In addition to her practice, she has been active in suicide prevention for the past twenty years, serving as both a crisis hotline counsellor and a member of the board of directors of Suicide Action Montréal. Her exceptional contribution to this cause, along with her professional accomplishments, was recognized by the Barreau du Québec in 2018, when it honoured her with its Mérite du Barreau – engagement social award.

A member of the Barreau du Québec since 2002, Madam Brochu completed a Bachelor of Laws and a master’s degree in international law at Laval University and the University of Montpellier.
