Mathieu Marchand
LawyerMathieu Marchand is a member of our Business Law group, practising mainly in taxation. He advises individuals, businesses of all sizes, trusts and not-for-profit organizations on both Canadian and international tax issues.
More specifically, Mathieu helps develop customized strategies for complex tax planning, as well as transactional and international taxation. He also advises clients on succession, rectification, compliance, tax objections and fund transfers to non-resident beneficiaries. As Mathieu’s top priority is client satisfaction, he always takes the time to talk with clients to fully understand their needs and objectives. His clients appreciate his strategic approach, diligence, commitment and attentiveness. Having been immersed in several different cultures during his studies, Mathieu understands that each person’s reality can differ and that this can play a fundamental role in a lawyer-client relationship, especially when dealing with foreign investors.
He also has a solid understanding of the issues facing mining companies today. In fact, his graduation essay for his Master’s degree in taxation dealt with the industry’s environmental impact, qualifying environmental trusts and the flow-through share mechanism. The essay was shortlisted by the Association de planification fiscale et financière (APFF) for its excellence award.
Before joining the firm, Mathieu worked at Revenu Québec. This experience deepened his knowledge of tax authority operations and equipped him to analyze files from a variety of perspectives.
