Kateri Vincent joins the Quebec Bar’s aboriginal law advisory committee

Both the Quebec Bar and First Nations communities in Quebec are now able to benefit from the expertise of Kateri Vincent, who will henceforth be sitting on the Bar’s special advisory committee on aboriginal law and cultural skills.

In connection with this special project, the Bar has organized a training tour of regions capable of serving the province’s Nord-du-Québec region. The tour’s purpose is to provide workshops for lawyers in order to prepare them for the cultural realities of Northern Quebec’s aboriginal peoples and communities, and to provide them with the tools necessary to assist juvenile delinquents, persons charged with criminal offences, and victims of crime.

In addition, the Quebec Bar has begun developing a three-hour online accredited professional training course aimed at making its members more aware of the province’s cultural diversity and the need to develop inter-cultural skills for preventing and resolving disputes.

Obviously, the success of such a project depends on persons having expertise in dealing with the members of the communities involved. As Kateri has such expertise, she was asked by the Quebec Bar to be a member of this special committee.

We wish her every success in this new role.
