Electrification of Transportation

Since three action plans were proposed to promote the development of electric transportation by the Government of Quebec, Langlois Lawyers has intensified the acquisition of knowledge and specialization in this industry. This type of transportation will have a major impact not only in environmental terms, but also in economic and energy terms. The various technologies that are available or are currently being developed will be central to what is now a mandatory switch to a greener economy that will generate less carbon.

In 2017, the Government of Quebec also enacted the Act to increase the number of zero-emission motor vehicles in Québec in order to reduce greenhouse gas and other pollutant emissions. By encouraging the sale of cleaner vehicles, this law will have a positive impact on their availability from dealers and on the rate of adoption by consumers. However, there is still a long way to go and the success of the transition requires carefully targeted actions that are part of a comprehensive plan covering both personal transportation and public transit.

Our team has solid experience in this field. Some of our lawyers have been deeply involved in developments in this industry in Quebec in recent years, and one of them handled Hydro-Québec’s initiatives in the field for six years. We have also developed valuable knowledge of initiatives relating to the electrification of transportation here and in neighbouring jurisdictions.
