Langlois Recognized as a Leading Firm in Litigation, by Benchmark Litigation Canada 2019

Langlois Lawyers is pleased to announce that it has been named one of the most recommended (Highly Recommended) firm in Quebec by the prestigious directory Benchmark Litigation Canada. This distinction attests to the depth of expertise of our litigation team and its ability to implement innovative and effective dispute resolution strategies.

In addition, this year, 27 of our lawyers are in Benchmark’s annual list of the best litigators in the country, 23 of them are recognized as litigation stars and 4 as future stars of litigation. The Honourable François Rolland joins Langlois Lawyers

Langlois Lawyers is extremely pleased to announce that the Honourable François Rolland, Ad. E. is joining its litigation group as senior counsel, mediator and arbitrator. A renowned jurist in Québec and Canadian legal circles, Mr. Rolland rose to prominence as a Justice of the Superior Court of Québec from 1996 to 2015, and was the court’s Chief Justice from 2004 to 2015.

In addition to presiding over numerous trials and settlement conferences in all areas of civil law, including commercial disputes, class actions, as well as insolvency and corporate reorganization files, Mr. Rolland has been appointed to various public positions by the Québec and Canada governments. He is also actively involved in several organizations dedicated to improving access to civil justice, including as chair of the Board of Directors of legal education organization Éducaloi.

Jean-François Landry joins the litigation group in Montréal. He practices administrative law and civil and commercial litigation, primarily in the areas of professional liability, the liability of directors and officers, and insurance coverage disputes. He holds a Master’s degree in Commercial Law from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a Juris Doctor from Dalhousie University.

Mike Siméon also joins the litigation group in Montréal. His practice focuses in particular on class actions, insurance law, regulatory penal law and corporate governance. During his law studies, Mike was vice-president of the Université de Montréal chapter of the Black Law Students’ Association of Canada, where he was involved in the creation of various initiatives to promote diversity within the legal community. Previously, Mike served for 10 years in the Canadian Armed Forces Primary Reserve.

Pierre Y. Lefebvre Inducted Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers

Langlois Lawyers is pleased to announce that Pierre Y. Lefebvre, a partner in our Montréal office, has been inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers, one of the most prestigious legal organizations in North America.

Recognized as one of the highest distinctions, College brings together the best litigators in the United States and Canada who have demonstrated the very highest standards of trial advocacy, ethical conduct, integrity, professionalism and collegiality.

Pierre has practiced commercial and corporate litigation for more than 25 years, and is recognized as one of Canada’s best class action lawyers, and for his expertise in managing complex files. In that capacity he has been lead counsel in many complex and highly publicized cases in a number of areas of the law, including corporate law, securities, and shareholder disputes. He has pleaded before all levels of the courts including, on several occasions, the Supreme Court of Canada.

The management of CM-CIC Investissement has announce the nomination of attorney William D. Hart as director and chairman of the board of directors of its two Canadian subsidiaries, CIC Capital Canada Inc. and CIC Capital de risque Inc. He joins Julien Saulgrain, an attorney at the firm Blue-HF, as a second independent director of these two companies.
