Kateri Vincent, an Expert in Aboriginal Law, Joins Langlois

Montréal, July 17th, 2017 – Langlois Lawyers is pleased to announce that Kateri Vincent has joined the firm as a member of its business law group. She will be practising out of the firm’s Quebec City office as well as its new office located in the community of Wendake.

Kateri practices business law, labour law, civil law and aboriginal law. She is a member of the Huron-Wendat Nation and grew up in the community of Wendake. She is thus particularly interested in issues involving First Nations, and has on various occasions represented band councils, corporations and other aboriginal-related entities.

She has specific expertise in the application of laws on reserve territories, particularly regarding protection of the environment, respect for ancestral rights and treaty rights, indigenous participation in development projects affecting ancestral lands, recognition of Indian status, aboriginal taxation and the implementation of legal vehicles to foster economic development. She also has considerable expertise in elections held under customary selection codes or pursuant to the Indian Act, trusts, and referendums within First Nations communities.

Kateri was called to the Quebec Bar in 2008 after obtaining a law degree from Laval University. She is a member of the board of directors of Quebec Native Women Inc. In 2016 she was awarded the Quebec Bar Medal, the highest distinction awarded by the Quebec Bar, for her significant contributions to the legal community.

“We are thrilled that Kateri has decided to join our firm,” stated Jean-François Gagnon, the firm’s Chief Executive Officer. “She has an enviable reputation, and her expertise in business law and aboriginal law considerably broadens the range of services offered by Langlois Lawyers.”
